That Was our Seminar Series FIRE PROTECTION in TIMBER HIGH-RISE CONSTRUCTION

The seminar series “Fire Protection in Multi-Story Timber Construction – Planning Principles and Solutions for Connections & Details” took place with great response. The event, organized by KOPPELHUBER² and Partners, offered a comprehensive technical program covering current challenges in preventive fire protection for multi-story timber buildings – a highly relevant topic given the increasing use of wood in urban construction forms.

The Interest Was High

The large number of participants demonstrates the significant need for information in the industry. Architects, civil engineers, timber construction specialists, authority representatives, and industry representatives used the seminar as an opportunity to network, exchange expertise, and delve deeper into the complex requirements of fire protection in timber construction. The over 140 participants in Graz, Vienna, Linz, Innsbruck and St. Pölten attest to the great demand for clearly communicated expertise, technical details, and applicable solutions for fire protection in multi-story timber construction.

High-Caliber Expertise and Practical Content

The seminar impressed with a well-founded, interdisciplinary lecture program. The contributions from Daniela Koppelhuber, Jörg Koppelhuber, and fire protection expert Rudolf Mark provided practical knowledge on planning principles, legal requirements, and concrete implementation solutions in multi-story timber construction.

These contents were complemented by contributions from corporate partners, presenting tested systems, details, and installation solutions – concrete, comprehensible, and practical.

  • Ronny Ertel (Hilti) – Fire barriers, pipe collars, joint sealing
  • Martin Hilleringhaus (Kaiser), Andreas Mayer (Siblik) – Fire protection boxes, electrical wiring
  • Stefan Lembäcker (Air Fire Tech) – Fire barriers, pipe collars, fire protection closures in air ducts
  • Florian Oberluggauer (Promat) – Fire protection boards, fire barriers, pipe collars
  • Andreas Rosenbichler (Peneder) – Fire doors

From standards to detailed system solutions

The seminar was structured into four thematic blocks:

  1. Fundamentals and Legal Framework
    • Introduction to relevant standards: OIB Guideline 2, TRVB 108/110, ÖNORMEN B 2330, B 2331, B 2332 ff., Eurocode 5 etc.
    • Requirements for building materials, components, and the role of fire protection in the planning process.
  2. Detail Implementations and Interface Solutions
    • Wall-ceiling connections, penetrations, facade seals
    • Planning depth in timber construction – from system connection to detailed solution
  3. System Solutions from Corporate Partners
    • Detailed solutions with tested products
    • Integration into the construction process, interface coordination
  4. Discussion, Exchange, Networking
    • Outlook on future challenges
    • Recommendations for planning and execution quality

Conclusion and Outlook

The seminar series “Fire Protection in Multi-Story Timber Construction” was technically well-founded, practice-oriented, and offered real added value – both for the planning side and for executing companies. The successful combination of regulatory knowledge, project practice, and specific product systems impressed all participants.
