Relevant for timber construction: LG 36 Timber construction – updated version November 2023

LB-Hochbau 023 Interim version LG 36 Timber construction November 2023

In the course of the revision and ongoing adaptation to the state of the art in timber construction, the performance group LG 36 Timber Construction was technically supplemented in fall 2023, expanded with new timber construction topics and published as an official interim version by the responsible Federal Ministry of Labor and Economic Affairs (BMAW).

The timber construction working group, which is made up of representatives and experts from the timber construction industry, civil engineers (including KOPPELHUBER² and partners), universities, the ministry and the public sector, together with ABK, has taken on a number of topics over the year 2023, reorganized them, supplemented them in terms of timber construction and made some of them more practicable.

The result has now been officially published in November 2023 as a draft (interim version) for the next new edition of the standard service description (LB-HB) version 023, which is expected to be published at the end of 2024, whereby this version is available digitally as a data carrier on the BMAW homepage. Of course, the official version of LB-HB 022 (as of 31.12.2021) still applies; the new interim version of LG 36 is therefore marked Z for all items so that both versions are equally valid and can be used simultaneously without duplication of numbers.

The following innovations and additions can be found in LG36 (2023) – excerpt:

  • a completely new sub-service group (ULG 36.24), which covers the topic of wood-concrete composite (TCC) in various facets, prefabrication stages and systems and describes it neutrally in accordance with the state of the art
  • a new ULG (36.13) for individual timber frame construction with a description of all individual layers (in contrast to the previous complete package)
  • which were not previously covered by the minimum bolting prescribed by EN B 1995-1-1, i.e. all fasteners – bolting / angle brackets / tie rods as positions belonging to the respective ULG
  • Inclusion of the technical terms in the items for the screw connection types / angle connection types in accordance with ÖNORM B 2215
  • tw. Additions for cross-sections and surface qualities or rough-sawn formwork
  • Insertion of keyword gaps for cross-section information and multiple labeling
  • Correction of terms in accordance with ÖNORM B 8110-2 for the previously used terms vapor barrier / vapor retarder
    sd ≤ 0.5 m (diffusion-open), 0.5 m < sd ≤ 10 m (diffusion-blocking), 10 m < sd ≤ 100 m (diffusion-inhibiting), 100 m < sd < 1500 m (diffusion-blocking), sd ≥ 1500 m (diffusion-tight)
  • the MW-WF thermal insulation product for insulating façades with more pressure-resistant insulation materials
  • and many more.
